Inspiration

Unfortunately I've been terribly ill for the last couple of weeks. This has prevented me from Updating this blog. But now that I'm back in full swing it's time to catch up. Starting with images that have inspired me and that I enjoyed. Seeing as I am making an illustrated static media product for children in West-Europe that explains how eyes see color, I went in search for actual books that have great illustrations.


Floor Rieder - Het Raadsel van alles dat leeft


What I like About these designs  is that they're very clean and straightforward. They aren't over the top colorful like some children's illustrations are, and they have a depth that makes them enjoyable for older readers as well. Something that children will enjoy, and their parents as well. This could prove influential because the parents are the ones who actually have to buy the books. It seems like a very atypical approach to a children's book, and that's why I like it.



Barbara Tammes - Handboek for het Bouwen van je eigen luchtkasteel


Tammes writes book that are about the joy of exploring your own imagination. Her drawings are very clean and simple but are evocative in nature, maybe because of their simplicity. I like the freshness of the drawings and what I think is great about them as well is that they allow you to create your own story but at the same time provide a certain framework for your imagination.

Rébecca Dautremer


Is a French illustrator. I've selected several of her works. What I like is her sense of detail and the amazing use of color. She excels at creating weird fantasy like worlds and characters, and makes them look incredibly cool.

This is the start of a brand new school season. For the course media-specialization we're assigned a designing project in which we can further develop our media skills. Below is an image of a stinky fish. A fish that our lecturer, Casper Zuidwijk, has made us fill in to see what the skills are we aim to improve.

 

I've chosen for a static approach, because that seems challenging enough at this point (I'm not a great designer) also I aim to create something that is mainly visual since that is new approach for me, seeing as I am a decent writer. Out of personal interest I would like to create something that is very simple and minimalistic, 'cause I feel great beauty can be found in simplicity. Also because it's a challenge for me to restrict my impulses and the information somewhat.
